MORE than £30,000 has been gifted to help build a new Southampton play park.

Friends of Lordswood Park and Southampton City Council celebrated the receipt of a £33,305 funding boost from Suez Communities Trust.

Funding will allow the creation of a new park for young children and their families to enjoy.

Fundraisers say they would like to see the site transformed for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

A spokesperson from the Friends of Lordswood Park committee said: “The committee has put a lot of hard work into getting this project off the ground.

“We are very fortunate to be rewarded this fantastic funding from Suez Communities Trust.

“We will now be able to create the much needed new play area for children and their families of Lordswood to enjoy.

“It will be an area where children will enjoy being outdoors and a place that will encourage them to be more active.

“It will unite the community.

“Thank you so much to Suez Communities Trust for enabling this to happen.”

Pete Sessions, from the Suez Communities Trust, added: “This is a great project which has been made possible by the determination and hard work of a group of parents who wanted to see better play facilities for children in the area.

“This important source of funding is celebrating its 20th year and has provided such worthy projects with more than £1.4billion.”
