A HOST of former Saints stars are backing a soldiers’ charity fundraising push by taking to the field.

A team comprising of the likes of Matt Le Tissier, pictured, Francis Benali, Jo Tessem and Kelvin Davis will team up in a Southampton FC Legends team that will take on an 11 from the local 17 Port & Maritime Regiment Royal Logistic Corps RLC regiment this weekend.

The sides will meet at AFC Totton’s Testwood Stadium on Sunday with the fun day kicking off at 12pm.

Across the day, there will be activities for all the family including a selection of bouncy castles, sweet stalls, penalty shootout, raffle and more.

The 17 Port & Maritime Regiment RLC are based in McMullen Barracks, in Marchwood, and offer constant support to the Army, both in peacetime and on operations.

The day will act as a fundraiser for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity but will also give the community the chance to talk and learn more about what their local regiment does.

The charity, formerly known as the Army Benevolent Fund, provides financial and practical support to soldiers, veterans, and their immediate family in times of need, even after they have left the Army.

Sergeant Oliver Devlin, who has helped arrange the game, said: “The whole day is about getting the community together and letting people see what we as a unit do and about Totton AFC.

“It will give locals the chance to meet us as well as promote the club.”

He added: “We did a charity spinning event recently which raised £9,000 so we want to keep up the good work from that.”

Before and after the match the Saints legends will be signing memorabilia.

Tickets for the event can be brought on the day. They are priced at £2.50 for adults and £1 for children under the age of 12.
