IT IS the Hampshire band that “does not play for pay but to raise money for a good cause”.

Now it is to perform at the Eastleigh-based pub Chamberlayne Arms in a bid to support ill children.

The Fryers Wreck was founded in 2015 by a group five Chandler’s Ford residents who decided to play together to raise money for Jason Richardson, a 51-year -old resident from Chandler’s Ford who is suffering with heart failure and is awaiting a transplant.

After the success of their first concert singer Kev Bird, 54, guitarist Adam Collis, 44, bass guitarist Ashley Churchill, 54, drummer Dave Thompson, 49, and Pete Bartlett, 54, who plays keyboards, decided to carry on playing together.

Since 2015 they raised more than £10,000 for several charities including the British Heart Foundation and are now set to host another concert on October 21 to raise money for the Little Princess Trust - the charity which supplies real hair wigs to kids who lost their hair due to cancer.

Band’s drummer Dave Thompson, who works also as a company director, said: “We have all been musicians for years but for families commitment we weren’t in a band but after we played together the first time we enjoyed it and we decided to do it again and help people who need help in life.

“We play for nothing but we raise money for charities. We want to do more and more to raise as much money as we can. We want to give something back to the community and music can definitively help us to do this.”

The band plays several types of music including pop and rock and during the night at the Chamberlayne Arms, which starts at 8.30pm, residents will be encouraged to donate.

Landlord Steven Robbins said: “ We should all make an effort to help this good cause. We should be doing more to help. We can all do a little bit.”

The free concert will start at 8.30pm.
