A PRISONER has died while in custody, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed.
Southampton man Michael Folley, 25, who was being held at Winchester, was taken to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in the city.
He was pronounced dead on September 18 and an investigation has been launched.
The prison service spokeswoman added: “As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”
The cause of Mr Folley’s death is not known.
An inquest has been opened and adjourned to March 22, 2018.
