POLICE are hunting a driver who hit a police officer with his car door while attempting to make a quick getaway in Southampton.

The man smashed the officer's shoulder with the door of his Nissan Micra as he fled police, after being stopped in a car park in Woodley Road, Woolston.

He was told to wait next to the car by officers, but got back into the vehicle and drove off with the door open.

The incident, which happened on Tuesday, October 10, left the officer with an injury to his shoulder.

Officers have since located the car but are appealing for help to find the driver.

Police staff investigator Louise Robbins said: “This happened during the day in a busy car park so we are appealing for anyone who saw this or who knows the man involved to get in touch with us.

"We have also issued an image of a man we would like to speak to as we think he may have information that could help our investigation.”
