The Itchen Bridge
POLICE rushed to Itchen Bridge this morning after a man was spotted sitting on the edge.
Members of the public reported concerns about the man's safety at 7.30am today.
Police managed to talk the man down from the bridge.
He has since been detained under the mental health act.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 7.30am this morning (Wednesday, 1 November) to a concern for welfare of a man on the Itchen Bridge.
"It was reported that the man was sat on the wall of the bridge.
"He came down from the wall at 7.43am and was detained under the mental health act."
Reports suggest there are still traffic delays in the area.
