WARNINGS have been issued to commuters this morning as a blanket of dense fog has covered Hampshire.

Transport chiefs are advising drivers of hazardous conditions on the road, while ferry bosses are warning of delays.

DP World, at Southampton Docks, suspended its shipside/landside operations this morning, but it has since resumed.

Red Funnel say its car ferry services are currently delayed by 90 minutes due to the dense fog in the Solent.

 Red Jet services were delayed because of the fog, but are now said to be back to timetable.

Meanwhile, Southampton Airport is advising that it is experiencing some disruption due to fog.

Airport staff say passengers should check-in as usual.

Highways England is warning of persistent fog on two of Hampshire's busiest roads.

Warnings are being issued about the M3 and the A303, where fog is expected to last "well into the day".

A spokesperson for Highways England, said: "A foggy start in the south with fog lingering in places towards lunchtime.

"Fog is likely to be locally dense, resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

"Once the fog clears in the south, it will be a largely fine day with some sunny spells.

"Into Friday evening, cloud will increase in the south and west with a risk of rain as the night progresses."

Weather experts predict the fog will last until later today.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "There will be dense fog slowly clearing this morning, becoming occasionally bright today.

"Early mist and dense fog in south will slowly clear.

"Some bright spells will develop."

Weather experts are predicting a cloudy evening tonight, with outbreaks of rain arriving later this evening.
