WHEELS are already in motion for a giant 100ft attraction to return to Southampton, the Echo can reveal.

Talks have already begun between civic chiefs and the owners of the "UK's tallest mobile Ferris wheel" to come back back next year, according to operators Eventive Funtime.

The company only rolled the attraction out of the Bargate last weekend, after spending six weeks in the city.

But bosses say it was such a success that they are already planning to bring it back next Autumn.

Owner, Garry Evans, said: "It was fantastic. We had a good response from people in Southampton.

"It is such a vibrant city and we really enjoyed ourselves.

"Talks have already started with the council for next year and we hope we can do even more, with better lighting features."

Mr Evans said he was hoping to come back to the Bargate around the same time next year, although he stressed that nothing had been agreed at this time.

Asked how many people had been up in the wheel during its six week stay, Mr Evans said he was unable to give a definitive figure.

However, he did say that the trip had been a "success" for the Derby-based company.

Another person to comment on the wheel's was Southampton City Council's cabinet member for communities, culture and leisure, Satvir Kaur.

She said: "I have definitely felt that it has been a great success.

"It has been used by a lot of people, both from the city and outside the city who have been able to enjoy something new and different."

Asked if the wheel could return next year, she added: "If they would like to come back we would be happy to have them."
