A POIGNANT sculpture made up of thousands of individual ceramic poppies is to go on display at a Hampshire tourist attraction.
Thousands of visitors are expected to visit the Wave when it appears at the Royal Armouries at Fort Nelson between April 13 and June 24 next year.
Siona Mackelworth, interim public engagement director at the Royal Armouries, said: “The sculpture will rise from the impressive defensive ramparts of Fort Nelson with its stunning views across Hampshire and towards the Solent.
“The fort will provide an inspiring location for visitors to reflect 100 years on from the final days of the First World War.”
Wave is from the installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, a work of almost 900,000 poppies which was on display at the Tower of London between August and November 2014 to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War One.
The artwork was designed by Paul Cummins who wanted each poppy to represent one British or Colonial serviceman killed in the war.
Wave’s 5,500-strong display is part of a UK wide tour by 14-18 NOW to help people experience the impact of the ceramic poppy sculptures in a range of places with particular First World War resonance.
