THOUSANDS flocked to see the Eastleigh Christmas extravaganza as sparkle and magic were brought to the town.
Deputy mayor Chris Thomas had the honour of switching on the lights in the absence of Mayor Mo Sollitt, who is in Germany at twin town Kornwestheim for their remembrance weekend.
But Councillor Thomas said this year was “bigger and better” than ever before and added: “It was brilliant, fantastic and wonderful to see so many people out and enjoying a great event.”
The switch-on on Saturday was followed by a fantastic firework display at Leigh Park while drummers, rides and a craft fair kept everyone entertained.
Revellers got in on the act, dressing up in Christmas costumes, including the three wise men and a bright white angel.
There was also a visit from Santa Claus himself.
Before the big event there was a fun fair for children and stalls aplenty with locally handmade crafts from Bumble Bears to MS Designs, who made their own wooden crafts from a garage in Woolston.
Prosecco delivered fresh from a pink tuk-tuk and the pulsing sounds of Big Noise Community Samba band had locals dancing in the street and gearing up for the Santa light parade.
Live music and face painting entertained guests until the light parade, led by Santa.
