A TEENAGE boy has been fined after he was caught illegally riding a motorcycle.

The 14 year old boy, from Southampton, was seen and photographed by a member of the public riding the bike across Mansel Park, in Redbridge, between 12pm and 1pm on Wednesday, 28 June.

Police were able to identify him as the image was sent to Hampshire Constabulary around two weeks later.

The boy appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (December 20) and was disqualified from driving for six months and fined £40.

PC Simon Peacock said: "The local community are our eyes and ears out there.

"If you can capture evidence, something as simple as a snap on your mobile phone, and send in to us, then we can reduce motorcycle nuisance for you and the court can impose penalties.

"If you have information, images or footage that relate to people dangerously riding motorcycles in Millbrook, Coxford, Shirley or Redbridge then please get in contact with me and email Operation.torque@hampshire.pnn.police.uk."

It comes a week after police appealed for witnesses following the riders of three off-road motorbikes put the lives of children at risk by "recklessly" driving in Southampton.

Worried members of the public raised the alarm after seeing the bikes causing a danger to children and other pedestrians in the Coxford, Millbrook and Shirley areas.

A police spokesman said: “These riders were putting themselves and people at risk of serious injury and we need to know who they are.”

The motorcycles were described as being orange, red and white, and blue and white.

The riders were wearing dark clothing, crash helmets and, in one case, florescent trousers.
