A HIGH profile American lifestyle and trainer brand is set to open its doors at a Southampton shopping centre.

Footwear brand Skechers is to open its first standalone store in Southampton at Westquay in March.

The new 3,800sqft store will be situated on level three of the mall, where it will join Office, River Island and Superdry

It will offer trainers from athletic to high performance shoes along with clothing for men, women and children.

The brand is also set to open at Union Square shopping centre in Aberdeen also operated by Hammersons, which runs Westquay..

Shopping centre bosses said the store will be a great addition to an ever-growing demand for athleisure and performance products at its shopping centres, with the category consistently outperforming across its portfolio.

Iain Mitchell, commercial director at Hammerson, said: “Skechers is a great addition to the retail mix at Union Square and Westquay.

“Both centres are the leading retail and leisure destinations in their respective catchments, and as such, are the perfect choice for international brands such as Skechers looking to gain a foothold in the regions.”

The news comes after the california-based footwear maker announced that quarterly revenue passed the $1bn mark for the first time in its history with sales in the final quarter of 2016/17 of $1.07bn.

At the end of the second quarter of 2017, the company had 2,055 stores worldwide, with 584 being Company owned.

Skechers will be the tenth brand to open at Westquay this year, following the arrival of Hugo Boss, Lovisa, Joules and Smiggle.
