THIS is the vision for a new play park in Southampton.
Friends of Lordswood Park have released their vision of what the park at Puffin Close will look like after reaching its fundraising target to enhance the area.
The plans include a new four-seat swing, for both adults and children, a toddler climbing frame unit, a disabled swing and trampoline, and disabled picnic area.
Organisers hope that building work will start in February with a completion date at some point in September 2018.
Karen Morris, chair of Friends of Lordswood Park, said the group carried out surveys at school fetes and online to find out exactly what the public wanted from the new park.
She said: “We have listened to what the public want and believe have created a park that will encourage families to enjoy the outdoors.
“The park will all be open so there will be no anti-social behaviour.
“This is a park for the residents of Lordswood that do not have a park. The families around Lordswood will enjoy this and can build relationships as a family here.”
Karen and five other mums who form the Friends of Lordswood Park committee initially started a fundraising push in order to restore one of Lordswood’s final parks two years ago.
All six live locally and wanted the public to have as big a say in what the finished park would look like as possible.
Since announcing its intentions, the group have been given a number of grants, including funds from Southampton City Council, Tesco and Suez Communities Trust – which gave the project £33,305.
“What you see with these plans is what you will get,” Karen added.
“This is a park that the residents of Lordswood will be proud of.”
