A DOLPHIN washed up on Sandown beach this afternoon.
A spokesperson for the UK coastguard said it received a call at 3.15pm after a member of the public spotted the white-beaked dolphin in distress near the boating lake.
They said they were on the scene with Isle of Wight police and the British Diver's Marine Life Rescue.
Attempts to rescue the dolphin have been unsuccessful.
The mammal has been put down.
