RESIDENTS have told how they heard scream from a terrified mum when four masked men forced their way into her Southampton home.
Police have today stepped up their hunt for gang who brought terror to Vanguard Road.
The drama happened when four intruders barged into a first floor flat after a 44-year-old mum of two who lives there answered the door.
Neighbours told how the gang, who appeared to be armed with a knife, then demanded a safe.
“It’s left us very frightened and worried. We are very upset. It was senseless,” said the neighbour.
“The woman in the house is really shaken by it all and her children are very scared, they must have got the wrong address.”
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a group of masked raiders forced their way into a Southampton home.
The incident on January 14 at 11.30pm saw four intruders burst into a flat on Vanguard Road demanding property, after a 44 year old woman with two children answered the door.
Now residents in the block of 11 flats have been left “very frightened” .
One neighbour who did not want to be named said she heard screams coming from a neighbouring flat.
She said: Police said the incident started when a woman knocked on the door of the flat.
When it was opened four other people forced their way in, demanding property.
But they left the flat empty handed.
The woman is described as having dark blonde hair, is white, in her early 20s or 30s, 5ft4, pale or malnourished and of slim build.
The group of intruders are also believed to be white and were wearing dark clothing. One of the people was described as having a chubby build and approximately 6 feet tall.
It is believed they may have targeted the wrong address and the people inside were left very shaken but unharmed.
Detective Constable Lee Murden from the Western Investigation Team said: “We believe this group targeted the wrong address, but their intentions were clear.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who can help us identify the people involved. We are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who can identify the woman who knocked on the door.”
If you have any information call 101.
Harefield Councillor Valerie Laurent said: “I especially feel for the residents in the home who must have been very frightened and so glad they were unhurt. I hope the group doing this are soon caught.”
