I TOTALLY agree with Charlie Arnold’s views (Letters, January 19) and I am in two minds whether we should keep Pellegrino as manager of Saints.

Our most successful period was after Lawrie McMenemy became manager. Lawrie was generally disliked until we won the FA Cup and then two years later were promoted back into the top flight. Lawrie rightly became a hero, he had the charisma and ability to sign great players on limited wages.

We now have a dilemma: do we sack our manager or give more time? Palace, Everton and West Ham were all languishing near the bottom of the table until sacking their managers and are now playing well.

Who would have thought it possible that an average team like Leicester would win the league? It just goes to prove spending millions doesn’t guarantee success, just a slice of McMenemy’s charisma and maybe a little more patience.
