A COFFEE shop which was targeted by robbers has reopened.

The BySea Coffee Lounge, in Portswood, was one of a number of businesses raided by thieves.

However, now the coffee shop – which donates its profits to the maritime charity Sailors’ Society– has opened its doors once again.

The charity’s director of development Adam Stacey said: “Everyone has worked really hard to get the lounge open again and we’re grateful for the support of our loyal customers.

“The BySea Coffee Lounge team’s cup is definitely half full; in fact it’s fuller than that because we now offer bottomless filter coffee for just £4.50.”

On November 28, a staff member was assaulted as two entered the Portswood Road premises at around 7.40am.

They were armed with a bottle and took money from the till. The employee was treated at the scene for a minor head injury.

It was one of 18 similar incidents in a period of 15 days.

Others businesses hit included Champagne Charlie’s and 7 Bone Burger, in Portswood, as well as shops in Witts Hill, Shirley, Eastleigh and Thornhill.

As a result of their investigation, a 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with robberies along with a 38 and 26-year-old.

Community groups can hire the lounge for events and the venue will host weekly music nights from March.
