HUNDREDS of jobs are at risk after a UK restaurant chain announced that it was closing a third of its restaurants.

100 Prezzo restaurants could be set to close as its parent company orders a restructuring, it has been reported.

The Italian pizza and pasta chain is set to unveil the full plans restaurants in the new few days, which would also see the closure of all of its 33 Chimichanga Mexican style food outlets.

The plans form part of a company voluntary arrangement (CVA), which is being prepared by the restaurants' private equity firm owner, TPG Capital of the USA, as it looks to restructure the chain's finances.

It has not yet been announced which restaurants are to shut their doors but the firm has restaurants in Romsey, Winchester, Fareham, Lyndhurst, Lymington, Port Solent and Oxford Street in Southampton.

The Prezzo chain was founded by the Kaye family in 2000 before being sold on to current owner TPG Capital in 2015 for £304m.
