WHILE I would encourage Southampton council's efforts to promote cycling in the city and wish them well with the My Journey 'Speed Dating' cycling event over Easter, it would take a braver man than me to risk cycling in the city.
Having recently followed a brave cyclist who was carefully managing to avoid the numerous pot holes in Shirley High Street, and further down the road watched another cyclist on the pavement weaving between pedestrians studiously ignoring the 'No cycling on the pavement' signs, it made me wonder if the money spent on signs would have been better spent on filling the pot holes.
I am not sure if any cyclists in Southampton have ever been fined for jumping red lights or riding on pavements but the pavement route might be the best bet as the road is definitely something to avoid.
