A CONVENIENCE store in Hythe has become the latest to be targeted by ram raiders.

The One Stop in Fairview Parade was raided at just before 3am on Saturday morning.

Stephanie Clark who lives in a flat above the shops said she and her partner were woken at 2.57am by a massive bang.

"We ran to the back window and couldn't see anything so we came out the front and looked down.

"There was smoke pouring out of the front of the shop. They have one of those smoke deterrent alarms which fills the shop with smoke if it gets triggered," she said.

"We then ran back in and phoned the police."

Anjuly Gomes, who also lives above the parade said that she slept through the attack but when she went out in the morning saw that the raiders had left the front of the shop in a "terrible state".

The shop's front doors were destroyed in the attack, although the interior seems to have been left unscathed.

A Hampshire Constabulary statement says: "If you have any information or were aware of any suspicious activity in the Beaulieu Road area of Hythe then contact police on 101, quoting 44180156250."

The shop is closed until further notice.
