A HYTHE mum is in the final stages of putting together a Royal Wedding Themed Fete ahead of the Royal wedding on May 19 which sees Prince Harry tie the knot with Ms Meghan Markle.

The fete was organised by Claire Young as an opportunity to raise the money to pay for home adaptions to make life easier for her 9-year-old son, Charlie who suffers from a rare, life limiting muscle wastage condition.

Charlie was only 2 years old when his parents, Claire and Ben heard the heart-breaking news that Charlie had Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

It was only when Charlie did not reach normal milestones that he began speech therapy where it was noticed that there were problems with Charlie’s walking. After various follow-ups and tests, Charlie was diagnosed with Duchenne is a genetic condition that can happen to anybody.

Claire Ligett said: “We are raising money for Chance for Charlie and Duchenne UK.

“Since the day Charlie was diagnosed we have supported research into finding a cure and having quicker access to medicines. Now Charlie's needs are increasing we are fundraising through Chance for Charlie to help support his medical needs.

“Charlie is an amazing boy who is so determined and strong, despite his failing body. He has a great sense of humour and wants to be like everybody else his age.

“He is currently still walking but his muscle are rapidly weakening. To support Charlie's changing condition we are trying to create a home which is fully accessible and supports his independence. We want his home to be a place where he feels as able as possible.

“We have lots booked for this event, including Scotty the clown, New Forest Brass, Hythe Choir, Bouncy Castles, Shine Studios, Live Music from Natalee Peterson and Mike Vaughan, a bar, Fairytale Kingdom, Slither and Wriggles, Inflatable Penalty shootout, crafts, games and much more. It is set to be a fun filled day for the whole family.”

The fete is being held at Clayfields Sport Centre, Hythe from12-4pm and includes live coverage of the Royal Wedding.
