AN APPLICATION to improve safety at an activity centre in Itchen has been submitted.
Active Nation UK, which runs Woodmill Outdoor Activity Centre, has outlined its plans to ensure people using the Woodmill Lane facilities can do so safely.
It is hoped that a small revetment will be built upon the banks of the River Itchen, at the site opposite Riverside Park, as parts of the area is showing signs of longstanding erosion.
The company also said that the project will help protect the river bank whilst improve conditions for the launch of canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.
In the planning application, the revetment is set to comprise of horizontal green oak planks which will be tied back using anchor posts set behind the existing bank-line to ensure it remains vertical.
It will cover approximately 8m and take around one week to install if successful.
The centre is used by some schools during the fay as well as daytime and nighttime salmon and sea trout fishing on Woodmill Salmon Pool.
The plan says: "The intention is to provide a better means of access, with a wider driveway, and a separated pedestrian path, enabling pedestrians to access the site in greater safety and convenience.
"This will also provide safer access to the sluice gate and associated equipment, which requires regular maintenance, and has been considered particularly with disabled users in mind."
The proposals were sent to Southampton City Council on Monday (November 6) and is under consideration.
