READING the comments by Kevin Keegan, (Echo, May 31) I was reminded of the speculation back in 1980 about which big club he would join after Hamburg, only for Lawrie McMenemy to scoop the football press with the memorable unveiling of Saint Kev as our new signing.
If only there was another star player currently with a major European club, looking to return to the English league.
Even better if he had a past connection with Saints and there was a possibility of a good rapport with our new manager, same nationality maybe.
I realise that these days wages are often a stumbling block but surely less so if the individual in question has already has amassed a tidy fortune.
Players on the move are always saying they want a fresh challenge. Given the the nail-biting finish to the season, what club is better placed than Saints to provide one?
