THERE were plenty of surprises in the Hampshire Athletics Championships held at the the Sports Centre, Southampton, on May 25, 1968.
Roger Kennedy took the title with a distance of 46ft, 6 3/4in, less than two feet under the record, while Chris Cheetham got the decision in a tight finish in the 100 yards from the holder David Dear.
Barry Fitzpatrick, the former national schools champion, won the senior 440 yards without any great effort, but in the three miles Ingleton had a hard fought tussle before getting clear.
Neil Munro won the walk for the fifth consecutive year but didn’t break away from the pack until the fifth lap.
