A PETROL station cashier was left seriously shaken after being confronted by a teenager armed with a kitchen knife.

The attempted robbery took place at the Alverstoke Total service station in Privett Road, Gosport, just after 2.30pm on Friday.

Police are now hunting the youth who was forced to run off empty handed after the cashier refused to hand over cash from the till.

The youth is described as white, in his late teens, of a skinny build, 5ft 8in tall, with darkish eyes and a local accent.

He was wearing a navy blue anorak, navy blue tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down one side and white trainers.

It's the latest in a series of knife-related crimes in the county as the Daily Echo continues its awareness campaign "carrying a blade - it's not sharp" which was launched earlier this year following the deaths of Southampton teenagers Lewis Singleton and Dele Little. DC Nicky Cupper, said: "This type of crime is uncommon in Gosport and while the youth did not threaten to harm the shop assistant, it was a serious incident involving a knife, which has left the cashier very shocked."

Anyone with information should contact Gosport CID on 0845 045 45 45 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

One of the standard chav uniforms I see!

Would it be practical to seize and imprison all persons displaying these sartorial habits?
