A 46-year-old woman collapsed and died inside a public toilet outside a busy Hampshire supermarket yesterday.

The woman was said to have fallen unconscious in the Hedge End toilets at about 2pm when a member of the public called for an ambulance.

Ambulance staff arrived at the toilets on Lower Northam Road outside Somerfield supermarket at around 2.25pm but declared the woman dead at the scene.

Police and fire crews helped cordon off the toilets for most of the afternoon and eye-witnesses reported that the woman's husband was present.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the woman's death but it is not at this stage being treated as suspicious.
