DOZENS of firefighters rushed to Southampton hospital after reports of a 'burning' smell.
The alarm was raised around 4.30pm yesterday - sparking a large scale response from Hampshire Fire and Rescue.
Crews from Redbridge, St Mary's, Hightown and Eastleigh all rushed to the hospital.
A number of firefighters directed traffic along Tremona Road, while others inspected the alarm, which was sounded in the east wing of the hospital.
However, a spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said the incident was a 'false alarm'.
Crews left the scene around 5.10pm.
