As we find ourselves firmly in the throes of Autumn and the rain clouds have taken up residency above, the Daily Echo takes a look back at a waterlogged event from the past.
The Bishop's Waltham, and District Agricultural Show in August 1951 was one of the worst experienced as a non-stop downpour of rain kept the public attendance to very small proportions.
Only the most enthusiastic owners, breeders and employees braved the terrible weather to attend.
President of the show, Miss GH Chrystal, used a microphone to inform the miniature crowd taking cover under a nearby marquee of her gratitude to those who organised the event – despite the weather.
"The society," she added, "has always endeavoured to make up in quality what they might lack in quantity and I am sure they have not failed in that aim today."
Miss Chrystal was introduced by Mr AC Annals who was positive that if it hadn't have been for the rain it would have been one of the finest shows held in the 36 years it had been running.
