May I extend a great big thank you for those that came along to reveal the Painton's cross named after myself by the National Poppy of Honour who copied my design then honoured me by naming it after me .
Their cross will go on display at the National Garden of Remembrance at Wincanton.
Ours can be seen at the Swaythling Railway Station in remembrance of the approximate movement of 250,000 horses and mules during WW1 and the Remount Depot. It received and deployed approximately 450,000 horses and mules from around the world.
The cross I designed was to remember all animals and birds that was used in conflict but as said with special attention to Swaythling Remount Depot.
So a big thank you to the two children from Cantell School and their deputy head for coming and also to Caroline Nokes MP for attending.
I would also like to say thank you to the other gusts for making it special for me and preserving the little bit of history that attaches itself to the remount depot.
Bob Painton
