The Premier League has announced it will convene an emergency club meeting on Friday morning regarding future fixtures after Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta tested positive for coronavirus.
Despite other sporting events being cancelled across the world, as recently as Thursday afternoon the Premier League insisted that all weekend matches, including Saints' trip to Norwich City, would be going ahead.
The news comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed the Government are "considering the question of banning major public events such as sporting fixtures.”
He added: “The scientific advice, as we've said over the last couple of weeks, is that banning such events will have little effect on the spread but there's also the issue of the burden that such events can place on public services."
