MEMBERS of the Hampshire based Royal Navy Royal Marines Motor Cycle Club have once again turned up trumps with an epic ride for Children In Need.

Chairman Lt Mark Rowbotham, who did most of the organising, was delighted with the result, with just over £16,000 raised, taking their grand total over the years to an amazing £236,000.

He said: "We rode approximately 1,500 miles around MOD establishments in the south of England, covering ten counties and 25 establishments.

"Week one took us as far north as Chicksands in Bedfordshire and as far west as Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose in Cornwall.

"The second week consisted of establishments in the Portsmouth area, except for Marchwood and Blandford Camp on Monday.

"Some excellent group riding occurred during the tour and although a little rusty at first it became quite slick' towards the end of week one.

"We had eight new Hondas supplied and insured by Honda UK through Portsmouth Honda. They were an SP2, CB 1000, CB 1300, VFR 800 Vtec, Pan European, Douville, Veradero and CDR600RR.

"We had additional support and sponsorship from Bikesure who arranged supplementary insurance cover at short notice. We also received a great deal of support and sponsorship from Hein Gericke Southampton."

There were eight riders for the first week, plus a support van driven by CPO Donna Hay.

All collections took place on military land or related businesses, and included the club's base at HMS Sultan, plus the Portsmouth and Plymouth naval bases, HMS Collingwood, RNAS Culdrose, MOD Abbey Wood, and many many more!

Mark added: "Those of us who collected would like to extend our gratitude to those who supported us by donating money, goods or support over the two weeks we were on the road collecting!"
