AN elderly pedestrian was left in intensive care last night after she was involved in a collision with a car just outside Winchester.
The accident happened in London Road, Headbourne Worthy, near the A34 bridge.
Police said a Fiat travelling east hit a 79-year-old woman, who was believed to be in the road.
An ambulance crew and officer, and two basics doctors, spent an hour treating her for "life-threatening injuries" at the scene.
The woman, who lives nearby, was then rushed to Southampton General Hospital under police escort.
She was admitted into intensive care with serious head injuries.
The 21-year-old female driver of the car was uninjured. She was due to be interviewed by police.
The road was closed for four hours after the crash at about 5.30pm while police carried out an investigation of the scene.
Witnesses to the crash who saw the elderly woman walking along the road should contact Cosham Roads Policing Unit quoting Operation Sea Spray on 0845 045 45 45.
