POLICE hunting a serial rapist in Hampshire believe four new victims have come forward following their latest appeal.

If confirmed it would mean the man they are hunting has attacked seven women during the past 20 years.

Detectives tracking the offender have thanked Daily Echo readers for their help after we highlighted how the investigation into the attacks was being rekindled thanks to the latest forensic techniques.

That evidence linked the man to three rapes in Hampshire, including one in 1994 during which a 14-year-old girl was attacked close to Southampton Sports Centre. The two other attacks occurred in the Portsmouth area in 1974 and in 1990 on the Southsea sea front.

Now Hampshire Constabulary, who also made an appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch programme, say four other victims have got in touch who may well have been attacked by the same man.

The victims came forward after it was revealed the rapist had also asked one of his victims to urinate before he attacked her.

Det Chief Insp Rachel Farrell said: "A significant number of quality calls relating to descriptions and patterns of behaviour came into the Crimewatch studio, and we have already received several calls as a result of publicity from our local media.

"We were also contacted by four individuals who think they may potentially be victims of the same offender.

"I am continuing to appeal for anyone who may have information who hasn't already contacted the Operation Dakota team to please come forward.

"Your call may help us find the missing piece of the jigsaw, and we can easily eliminate someone from our inquiries.

"Prior to the Southampton rape the offender asked his victim to "go for a wee". This may or may not be significant, but I would again urge anyone with information to contact us."
