FOUR wards at Southampton General Hospital have been closed following an outbreak of a diarrhoea and vomiting bug.

Hospital bosses are warning people not to visit the site if they have been struck down with the illness during the last 72 hours or are feeling unwell.

The ward closures come after 31 patients were diagnosed with the norovirus, a type of highly infectious viral diarrhoea and vomiting bug.

Temporary visiting restrictions have been put in place as a precautionary measure to protect patients.

Family and friends are advised to check with ward staff before visiting patients.
