MEET this week's four-legged friends who are all looking for their forever homes.

If you are considering bringing a new pet into your home, adopting a dog or cat from a rescue centre will give them them a second chance at having a happy life.

These paw-some pets are currently in the care of Blue Cross Southampton rehoming centre. More information about them and how they can be adopted can be found on their website.

Casky

Daily Echo:

Breed: Greyhound

Age: Three years old

Casky is an ex-racer, so has lived most of his life in kennels but is now in a Foster home which he's really enjoying.

He is a quick learner and is already getting used to what is acceptable in a home, but will need ongoing guidance.

He is a very friendly chap and very affectionate too. He likes being around people but can get a bit anxious when left alone at the moment so will need help in this area too.

Quite excitable around other dogs but has met larger dogs successfully, He can get excitable around smaller animals and, as a powerful dog, would be best suited walking round the roads where there are no off lead dogs.

Due to the predatory drive he would not be suitable to be an off lead dog so would love to have a garden to run about in.

He would need to be the only pet in his new home.

Maple

Daily Echo:

Breed: Lurcher

Age: Three years old

Maple is a sweet dog with a sensitive side who is looking for an understanding new owner to give her time to settle in at her own pace.

She can be worried by new people initially, but once she has built a bond you get to see her fun side.

She will need a quiet home without too many comings and goings and is worried by other dogs so need to be walked in quiet places where dogs aren't off lead.

If her new owner had friends with calm dogs she could walk with she could build confidence slowly.

There isn't any history known about Maple she will need an owner who is willing to work on settling her in and is around most of the day to be able to build up the time she is left for.

Billy

Daily Echo:

Breed: Domestic Short Hair

Age: Nine years old

Billy is on the lookout for a special home with an understanding owner who will allow him time and space needed to settle in.

He can be nervous in new environments and would need a quiet room to call his own until he has found his feet.

Once settled, he loves to spend time with people, enjoy lots of head tickles and has the biggest purr!

When I’m not playing or having fuss, a new home with a quiet, secure garden would mean he could wander around and explore in peace.

His new home will need to be quiet without too many comings and he would need to be the only pet. A house without children would be preferable.

Zachary

Daily Echo:

Breed: Domestic Short Hair

Age: Four years old

Zachary has heaps of character is looking for an adult only home with experienced owners.

While he will chat away to let you know he's around and really enjoys a bit of lap time, he only want fuss on his own terms.

Someone who will be around for at least part of the day would be ideal.

Zachary has FIV, which means he is immune-suppressed and could potentially spread the virus to other cats. So, as a young, active cat, he will need a large home with access to a secure garden surrounded by cat proof fencing so he can get out for some fresh air but still be safe from spreading and catching any germs.

When first settling in he would benefit from a quiet room so he can find his feet and build up a bond gradually.
