POLICE have launched an investigation after a body was discovered near a riverside beauty spot.
Officers converged on fields off Bishopstoke Road, Eastleigh, where the River Itchen runs through a wooded area which is a popular picnic spot.
Police said that a body been found near water at lunchtime today but would not release more details.
The death is not thought to be suspicious.
One resident living nearby said there had been a lot of police activity in the early afternoon. There were about four police cars and a van which looked as if it had sniffer dogs in it. They were parked in a gateway to a field opposite the area where the body was discovered.
