A HAMPSHIRE boat club has launched an investigation after a visiting sailor died during a race in the Solent.

Emergency services rushed to Milford on Sea on Saturday afternoon.

Rescue teams pulled 45-year-old Richard Blowman from the water after his single-handed dingy got into trouble. The sailor, from Hull, was treated at the scene but later pronounced dead.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious but an investigation is now underway.

Keyhaven Yacht Club said it was "incredibly saddened to report the death of a visitor, who was competing in the prestigious UK Masters Championships & BFA Finn Masters 2022 event".

It added: "The directors and members offer their sincere condolences to his family and friends.

"Keyhaven Yacht Club are assisting and co-operating with all external authorities and will also be conducting its own internal investigation."

Tributes on social media included one from the British Finn Association.

It said: "The Association sends our prayers and love to Richard's sister Jillian and all his family after this tragic accident whilst competing in ideal conditions in the Solent."
