Channel 4 has confirmed that Gogglebox will still air tonight as scheduled following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

It comes as many broadcasters are clearing their regular scheduling, seeing shows postponed or not airing whilst a period of mourning takes place across the nation.

Channel 4 shared that it would be holding a news special from 5.55pm until 9pm, when Gogglebox will air as normal.

Gogglebox to return tonight

In a statement from a Channel 4 spokesperson, they said: “Channel 4 has made significant changes to our schedule, including added extended news coverage, to ensure that Channel 4 is respectful following the news from Buckingham Palace about the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

“Channel 4 exists to offer viewers an alternative and that is particularly important at times like this.

“Gogglebox is a much loved national institution and it will air as planned tonight bringing a valuable sense of continuity for many of our viewers.”

Although the popular reaction show will be back on screens, Channel 4 has said that The Last Leg will not go ahead.

Comedian and host of the show Adam Hills said: "‘We’ve decided not to do an episode of @thelastleg tonight. It just doesn’t feel right.

"We’ll pay tribute to Her Majesty next week but for now our thoughts are with her family, and all those affected by the news. We hope you understand."

Gogglebox will return at 9pm tonight on Channel 4.
