MOST of us have problems jiving with two feet but with tails wagging and pricked ears, these dancing dogs are divas of the dance floor.

Disco and Pogo's prancing prowess is a result of the top training techniques of Southampton-based canine freestyle star, Richard Curtis.

Next week Richard, one of television's top dog trainers, will be helping Hamp-shire's dog owners to get their problem pooches dancing to their tune, in aid of the RSPCA's Stub-bington Ark.

Richard and his canine companions are at the top of the dog training sport, winning at Crufts in 2006 with Portuguese waterdog Disco and finishing runners-up at this year's contest with Blue Merle border collie Pogo.

The sport, also known as heelwork to music, is an extension of obedience training, exercising the dogs both physically and mentally in a way that they find fun.

Richard, 34, from Shirley, who has been training dogs since he was nine, said: "The brilliant thing about this sport is that any dog can do it. You can cater each routine to suit the personality of the dog and there are no required elements.

"Any dog owner can come along and see what they can do with their dog and it's a great way to build a bond. You will be amazed at what your dog can do with a bit of training."

Richard is donating his services free to the Ark. All money raised will go towards the Ark Appeal to build a new state-of-the-art veterinary unit.

The event is being held on April 18, at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth. To get your tickets for the event call 01329 666917. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £7.50 for concessions.
