LEARNING is fun at one Hampshire Junior school described as "outstanding" by inspectors.

Pupils, staff, governors and parents are delighted with Freeground Junior School's latest Ofsted which received the highest grade possible.

Inspectors described the 355-pupil Hedge End school as a "strong, caring, vital community" where "learning is so much fun."

Pupils were found to make good progress reaching standards that were well above average in English, maths and science.

Inspectors also praised the school for closely assessing pupils' progress ensuring that no-one underachieves.

Overall teaching was found to be good with teaching assistants making a "valuable contribution" to pupils' outstanding learning.

In addition, pupils with learning difficulties were found to be well supported as were those who were very able.

The school was also commended for tackling any areas of weakness "quickly" and "successfully" under the leadership of the "inspirational" headteacher Malcolm Barrett.

Commenting on the report he said: "Everyone involved with Freegrounds Junior is thrilled with our outstanding' grade.

In addition to its glowing Ofsted report the school also holds an Artsmark, Active mark and Healthy Schools award.
