A MOTORIST who hurled abuse at three Hampshire traffic wardens before speeding off in his 4x4 has escaped a driving ban.

Steven Rouse was sentenced to 75 hours community service and his driving licence was endorsed with six penalty points after being found guilty of careless driving and using threatening behaviour.

Portsmouth Crown Court was told how the 25-year-old verbally abused the Fareham Borough Council traffic wardens after receiving a £30 fixed penalty fine for parking his Toyata Hilux on double yellow lines in Park Gate.

Moments later Rouse got into his vehicle and sped into Middle Street car park causing the traffic wardens to jump out of the way.

Rouse, of Richmond Road, Lee-on-the-Solent, was also ordered to pay a total of £1,000 in compensation to the three traffic wardens.
