AS a dog mum I jumped at the chance to take my beloved pooch to the grand opening of Southampton's new pet bakery.

I walked into the Marlands Shopping Centre with my three-year-old dog Sully with one goal: to try the Angelic Kitchen which opened last weekend.

With the bakery offering baked goods for dogs and their owners, Sully (a 61kg Tibetan Mastiff) and I would both get the opportunity to enjoy a sweet treat.

The store is painted pink and blue matching the colours of the doggy doughnuts and biscuits displayed behind glass, no doubt there to protect them from slobbery chops.

As this was Sully's first time allowed in a bakery he was more focused on the sugary smell than on shop owner Alana Briant greeting him.

The 20-year-old from Sholing said that she "couldn't wait" to see Sully try her food

At this point, Sully was clearly hungry - having formed two shoelace-like strings of drool from each cheek and decided to shake causing them to wrap around his head.

When ordering I decided to go with two doughnuts and two bone biscuits for Sully, and some Oreo cookie squares for myself.

Bone appetit

I opened the box of treats for Sully but the swarm of people wanting to pet him was too much of a distraction so one bus ride home later we attempted a second taste test.

Sully sniffed the pink doughnut, inspecting it carefully before taking it from my hand and proceeding to devour the whole treat.

If he could speak I hope he would thank me - and say how delicious the doughnut was. But if he did talk I imagine he would only tell me to give him another.

In reality, he paid the bakery the highest honour by begging for another one before falling asleep next to a half-eaten doughnut - all while leaving the bone biscuits untouched.

The portion sizes are large - even for Sully. My recommendation is to cut up the treats in more manageable sizes otherwise your sofa will be covered in crumbs and dribble.
