A SOUTHAMPTON clamper has told of the terrifying moment he was brutally attacked by a gang of men after wheel-clamping a car.

Jason White and a colleague had just clamped a car when a gang of up to six men armed with metal bars attacked them.

The gang launched a 15-minute attack on the pair leaving them in a pool of blood and needing hospital treatment for facial injuries and bruising.

The victims managed to escape and phone police before the gang attacked their van with metal bars causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

Armed police arrived just after the men had fled the scene.

The assault happened after Jason and another employee from Southampton, who has not been named, asked the owner of the car for a £150 release fee.

Jason, 37, who runs Southampton based Whites Car Park Solution, said: "I told the man how much the release fee was and he was fine.

"He telephoned someone to arrange the payment but all of a sudden five or six people came across the road and started beating the hell out of us.

"We were on the floor being kicked and punched and I must have taken about 20 kicks to the face."

Jason said the owner of the car stood by helplessly during the attack. The owner's dad turned up later to pay the fee.

Jason added: "I'm black and blue all over and can only just open my eyes now.

"There was blood everywhere. I will try and be a bit safer in the future but you can't prevent this kind of attack. Nothing like this has ever happened before."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault that happened at 9.45pm on May 30 in Dunstable Road.

PC Steve Guerin, from Luton CID, said: "We know that the victims had demanded £150 payment from the owner of the car but, whatever people think about wheel clamping, it does not justify what followed."

He added: "If anyone knows who is responsible for the unprovoked attack on these two men, please contact Bedfordshire Police."
