THE release of Prince Harry's memoir has been a quiet affair in Southampton.

Copies of 'Spare' - the much talked-about autobiography of King Charles' second son - is now on sale in book stores across the city.

The 400-page tell-all is already out at half price in Waterstones and WH Smith after Spanish booksellers 'accidentally' published it five days before its launch date.

Media outlets from around the world rushed to grab a copy and translate it, and countless articles have been written since then.

Customers at Southampton's Waterstones on Tuesday morning took a quick look at the shelves before going about their daily business.

Only a handful were actually seen flicking through the book an hour after the store's doors opened.

There were similar scenes in WH Smith on Above Bar Street.

Despite a huge amount of details being leaked in the past few days, some people were still keen to grab a copy and make their own opinions.

Matthew Croxford, 56, was very enthusiastic about the release of the “royal rebel's” book.

He said: “I want to read his side of the story.

“I think we’ve had too many years with other people trying to tell us what he is about, so I think this is the chance for him to put the record straight.”

“I don’t think it is a threat to monarchy, it just going to be an everyday tale of a warring family,” he added.
