A TEAM of volunteer gardeners from Hythe will be creating a stunning compact show garden at the BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair at Beaulieu this weekend.

The Beautiful Border has been designed by retired local garden designer and volunteer Julia Baker and is inspired by the Healthy Haven garden at the Waterside Medical Practice, a space for quiet reflection.

The show garden will feature colourful flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables within a wildlife-friendly environment.

All equipment and materials are recycled or donated.

Much loved at BBC Gardeners’ World Events, the Beautiful Borders competition is designed to offer inspiration for small gardens and challenging spaces. At just 9m2, the small-space show gardens are packed with creative planting and design features.

Designer Julia Baker said: "Like the existing Healthy Haven garden, our Beautiful Border is divided into sections, representing our flower garden, woodland area and ‘Growing for Eating’ section, with the focal point being an upcycled Sunflower Bench which was originally rescued from a reclamation yard for £20!"
