Summer may not have started yet, but it certainly feels like it’s here already with Wagamama’s new summer menu now available across the country.

Having come back to work after a week off, I was still in the mood for some summer freshness, and at the kind invitation from the restaurant in Westquay, I could not resist.

I wasn’t very familiar with the restaurant so when I walked in, I asked for some help from one of the waiters on how the whole menu worked.

I decided to order the new koyo bowl, a chicken bowl with caramelised onions and vegetables, with sticky red chilli and miso sauce.

It came served in a bed of mixed leaves beetroot, carrot, cucumber, mooli, red radish and edamame beans.

When it arrived at my table, the bowl was full of colour - the carrots, the cucumber, and the beans all gave it a nice appearance.

The dressing was so nice and full of flavour which added to the mix of flavours already provided by the salad.

It was the sort of food I imagine eating after a workout at a seafront gym in Santa Monica, California (no harm in dreaming).

The meal was fresh and light which was what I was looking for on a warm sunny day.

The last thing I needed was a heavy meal that would send me to sleep for the afternoon – especially because I needed to head back to work.

On the side, I ordered some crispy chilli mushrooms, and I can’t say I was particularly blown away. It’s not something I could say I disliked, but it just wasn’t that exciting.

Having said that, I am Portuguese, and I am used to eating mushrooms seasoned differently.

I can’t say they didn’t taste good, but they weren't the best part of my meal.

With that said, I was then offered to try Wagamama's delicious sorbets.

A fresh mango flavour brought to mind those warm summer afternoons.

Along with it, there was a scoop of power juice, made from spinach, apple and fresh ginger.

Overall it was a good experience, the new Wagamama menu is worth trying and I would recommend anyone to go and try it for themselves.
