ENGINEERS at Fawley refinery are still trying to resolve an issue that sent a dark-coloured plume of smoke over the area.

Yesterday the plume was spotted coming from a stack on one of the refinery's combustion units.

But people living near the huge petro-chemical complex were told there was no risk.

Posting online ExxonMobil Fawley said: "We apologise if you can currently see a dark-coloured plume from a stack on one of our combustion units.

"Our team is working to rectify this as quickly as possible, and there is no risk to residents.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding."

In an update this morning they added: "Our team is continuing to rectify the issue with one of our combustion units.

"During this time you may again see a slightly dark plume above our site.

"We again apologise for any disturbance this may cause and thank you for your continued patience."
