Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said he uses the Daily Echo app to follow Southampton FC 'the whole time'.

The Prime Minister has joined the thousands of subscribers who get exclusive access to the Echo app, which offers up to the minute updates from St Mary's - and all the latest news from around Southampton.

Mr Sunak - a keen Saints supporter having grown up in Southampton - said he uses the Echo app 'more than' any other news app - and keeps his Southampton parents up to date by checking for updates.

It's a great time to subscribe for just £3 for 3 months - as subscribing gives you exclusive access to the app

He said: “My parents always ask me how I know what’s happening in Southampton… I say to them ‘oh there’s a new shop opening in Westquay’ and it’s because I have the app.

“I mainly use it for the Saints news the whole time. But it’s probably the news app I’m on more than any else.”

Mr Sunak was at Silverlake Stadium visiting Eastleigh FC after their run in the FA Cup. The Spitfires missed out on playing against Manchester United after losing to Newport this week.

We've covered his visit here, including asking him about the financial difficulties councils are facing.

You can join Saints fan Mr Sunak and subscribe to follow coverage by Alfie House, George Rees-Julian and Tom Wallace who bring you exclusive interviews, breaking news, match reports, analysis and much more.

You also get digital access to Southampton legend Franny Benail's column every Saturday, where he discusses the goings on in football, both past and present.
