Police carried out a major search after a 14-year-old girl was reported missing in Southampton.

The girl was eventually found safe and well in Winchester.

Posting on social media, Southampton Police said: "Here's a good result from last night's shift on the Southampton District Policing Team.

"At one point during our shift, while most of you were tucked up in your beds and fast asleep, we were deployed to search for a missing 14-year-old girl.

"We attended her home address to gather some details and then searched across the city.

"Fortunately, a few hours later, the female was located by one of our colleagues in Winchester, and we're glad to report that she was safe and well.

"As ever, please remember you can contact us, if you need us, on 101 (non-emergencies) and on 999 in an emergency.

"You can also report online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website."
