A major Eastleigh road is closed while repairs are carried out by Southern Water.

The 'urgent repair and maintenance work' by the water supplier started yesterday, February 12, and will be in place until later today.

Two-way temporary lights are being used for some or all of the period and could cause delays to journeys, Southern said.

A Southern Water spokesperson said: “Our teams have repaired a pipe leak on Stoneham Lane. Traffic management was put in place so we could carry out the work safely.

"The repair of the pipe will be completed today, Monday. The pipe will be reinstated tomorrow and barring any unforeseen circumstances the work will be complete on Tuesday.”

Stoneham Lane is a major route into Eastleigh from Southampton and the road is well-known for its live music venue The Concorde Club.

Hampshire County Council alerted residents to potential delays to their journey, through a post on X formerly known as Twitter.

Despite traffic moving slowly on Stoneham Lane, the surrounding roads of Chestnut Avenue and Stoneham Way are currently coping well with the impact of the road works.

Footpaths are still accessible to pedestrians and Southern Water has said that works will only impact the carriageway.
